Pinterest can be an invaluable resource for gaining new leads, marketing your products, and generating traffic for your site – if you know how to use it. Fortunately, Pinterest makes it simple with Pinterest Rich Pins.

Rich Pins add metadata and site links directly to the Pins that are taken from your blog posts, so that Pinterest users know exactly where the Pin came from and can easily find their way to your site from Pinterest.

Rich Pins show metadata within the Pin itself, giving Pinterest users a richer experience and increasing engagement. There are currently three types of Rich Pins: Article, Product, and Recipe Pins. Below you will see an example of a normal non-Rich Pin and an Article Rich Pin.

Here is an example of a normal Non-Rich Pin from within Pinterest. This pin does not display any metadata.

Here is an example of an Article Rich Pin from within Pinterest. Article Rich Pins contain links to the website that the image originated from and rich metadata that can include titles, excerpts etc.

Pinterest has made enabling Rich Pins for your site easier than ever. All you will need is two WordPress plugins that are available to any Showit user with a blog. Follow these steps below to set up Rich Pins for your Showit blog posts.

If you haven't already, you will want to make sure to add a plugin that will create a "Pin-It" button for the images within your blog. This will provide your readers with a direct link to pin your images to their boards within Pinterest.

We recommend using the Weblizar Pin It Button Plugin. This plugin comes pre-installed for Showit users with a Basic Blog Subscription. Check out our article below for more information on installing this plugin.

You will then need to install and activate Yoast SEO. Yoast is a free WordPress plugin. If Yoast is not installed on your blog, you can install it by going to Plugins > Add New and search for Yoast. Then Install and Activate the plugin. For more information on getting started with Yoast, check out this article below.

Once you have Yoast downloaded and active, you will want to enable Open Graph Data from within the Yoast plugin. You can access this by clicking on Yoast SEO > Settings in the left side panel of WordPress, then scrolling down to find Open Graph Data under the section titled Social Settings.

If this feature is disabled, choose to enable it and then save changes. Open Graph works to pull metadata from your site and display it in social posts like Pinterest's Pins.

Once you have Open Graph data enabled, all of your Pins should become Rich Pins! Happy Pinning!
