Learn how to create a canvas that auto-populates blog posts based on a specific category or tag, like featured.

Set Up a Featured Posts Section

1) Create a canvas with your featured post layout containing the placeholders you want shown for the post: Featured Image, Post Title, Post Top Category, etc.

2) Add a canvas view and move the placeholder layers into the view folder. If you are creating a side-by-side layout, divide each post into it's own canvas view.

3) Set the WordPress Canvas Type to Posts View Lookup

4) Define the Tag Name Slug (typically "Featured") and the Number of Posts to show.

Note: If you add a Tag Name Slug in Showit, make sure that you have at least one Blog Post with this tag applied in WordPress.

5. Optional: If you want to populate the most recent posts in the canvas, leave the Category and Tag slug fields blank.

Note: When displaying Featured Posts that will be selected by the user, we suggest you configure the Posts View Lookup to load posts based upon a Tag Name Slug, not a Category Slug.

This way, a post can remain in a broader category like Weddings or Baking for optimal SEO purposes, while also being Tagged to be "featured" in your layout.

Cycle Through Additional Posts

You can configure this canvas to cycle through more featured/recent posts than you have views for.

Auto Advance Views

To do this, you can set your canvas to Auto Advance Views. This will cause this view to transition through more featured/recent posts on your live site.

Click Through Views

If you would like to have an option to manually transition to new views, you can add an arrow icon and set a click action to allow visitors to your site to click to view new posts.
