Most Showit designs come with a single Category blog template. It is used for all categories, and typically contains a text box at the top that will change depending on the category you’re viewing. However, the layout of the posts will be the same for all categories.

Creating a Custom Blog Category Layout

There is a way to create a unique layout for a specific category page by creating a custom category template.

To accomplish this:

  1. Create the template design within Showit.

  2. Under the Template Info settings you'll need to select WordPress Template> Custom and then manually type a name in the format of: category-slug (where "slug" is replaced with the category slug defined in WordPress).

  3. Publish your design to confirm it's correctly connecting to your design. If not, your naming structure might not be correct.

Example Naming Structure:

You'll start with the prefix of "category-" which defines the type of template for WordPress. Then it's followed by the unique category slug found within WordPress under Posts > Categories > (see visual below).

For example a custom template name for a "Wedding Flowers" category would most likely be "category-wedding-flowers" (all lowercase, no spaces).

If you’re unsure where to find that category slug, it’s located in WordPress under

Posts > Categories > Slug column.

Once that template setup is complete and published, it will be used for that specific category listing page.

Linking to the Category

Please reference Linking Your Categories for the URL structure to link within your design to that category page.
